BUILDING BIG PEOPLE

STARTS WITH YOU

PT has a saying, “Great leaders don’t build big buildings, they build big people.”

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Big people lead from the inside out

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

2But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a] gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law.

How do you love yourself?

  • Love is a choice that is built by habit (consistent action).

  • Habits that produce GROWTH (fruit of the Spirit).

    • Integrity: Connection vs. Control

How do you lead yourself?

  • Acceptance

    • Quote: “Leadership is not a title or position. It’s a mindset.” —Craig Groeschel

    • You can not lead others if you first don’t accept yourself as a leader

  • Initiatives

    • You are a movement but where are you moving to?

    • Point back to break out room

  • Accountability

    • Point back to break out room

Big people have healthy habits

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

How do you keep your Spirit Fed?

  • What if you only ate food once a week on Sunday. How well nourished do you think you would be?

  • Physical Training Requires a regimen and so your Spiritual Training must have a regimen in order to be nourished spiritually

We’ve gotten more clarity about being students and leading from the inside out. Leading from the inside out means our inward man is growing, transforming, getting healthier and renewed. That renewal happens when we develop healthy habits of prayer, worship, and study of the Word.

Healthy Prayer Life Habits

  • Consistent: Open line with God. Permit yourself to pray anytime, anyplace, in any way.

  • Honest: Safe to pray from where we are: Vulnerability builds intimacy.

  • Bold: Pray with humble authority. With and for others. In agreement: Activates deeper power in our prayers (Matthew 18:16-20).

  • Aligned: Study His Word to know Him so your mind stays open to His wonder.

Healthy Worship Habits

Worship is Thinking about God, and Surrendering to Him. (Romans 12:1, Luke 7:37-39). Praise and worship is a spiritual weapon (2 Chronicles 20:21), heart healer, soul restorer. In heaven angels surround God worshiping nonstop. (Revelation 4:8)

  • Consistent: Worship is a part of your being, not a weekly ritual. How? Think about God: Give whatever is happening in that moment to Him.

  • Surrendered: Give up your own will for God’s. Luke 22:42

  • Messy: Not a performance or ritual. Messy, bloody sacrifice. Worship is being in the presence of the fullness of God. Getting and staying there is violent.

Interpreting and living the Word

  • Consistency: Determine how often and stick to it. More than just a YouVersion Bible Daily Verse but a dedicated time to hear God speak through his words. Life changes so if cadence doesn’t work re-evaluate monthly.

  • Read: Active reading not skimming

  • Interpret: Don’t reinvent the wheel. Google ‘How do I interpret the Bible’ will work wonders. Use proven methods. Context is EVERYTHING in the Bible.

  • Discuss: If you’re not asking the scripture questions then you’re not looking for answers. Share your revelations with others so that you can be encouraged, affirmed, challenged, and sharpened as iron

  • Apply: James 1:23-27. As you apply, you also test so that God can correct.
